Cat Nutrition Book Excerpts:
…… Historically cats are a desert climate species (i.e. lions) that depend on their food for their water intake. They do not instinctually drink enough to make up for a dry-food diet. In fact, a recent study shows that cats fed a "high moisture diet" versus cats fed an "all dry food diet", still drank the same amount each day! So, cats on a dry food diet are in a perpetual state of dehydration. No wonder we find so many hairball and urinary tract diseases in our domestic cats!
…… Cats are strict carnivores and should not be fed grains, like rice, wheat or barley.
…… Cats must have a highly digestible animal protein source in their diet.
…… How do I read a pet food label? The real answer is that you cannot gather enough GOOD information from the label to determine if this is a good product to feed your cat!
…… The bargain brand pet foods do say "nutritionally complete and balanced. But, it relies on your pet eating huge volumes of the food to get the necessary RDI of vitamins and minerals. Ever wonder why the bag of food says "feed one cup daily" but, your vet says "feed ½ cup daily?"
